Also, see the cheapest laptop hunt sticky at the top of this page for recent deals.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Depends what she wants to use it for, but for general surfing, email, music etc. I'm very pleased with the £299 Acer from Comet. Handles web design in Dreamweaver, ImageReady and Adobe Photoshop well also.

Wait a while for Vista, even if you're not going to get it, the laptops that won't support it will drop in price by around christmas0

Well she isn't going to do anything too mindblowing as she's not into games playing ..she just wants it to type up college stuff and surf net for assignments etc also chat to friends via msn..So the £299 acer from Tesco's would suffice would it ?Also another maybe dim question but do these come with a LAN card fitted?? as we have a wird router set up to the various rooms in our house
Thanks again people for your advice..0 -
most if not all do, you may want to consider a wireless one for future proofing..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

as mentioned elsewhere, if she can hold on for a mohnth or two there should be a price drop as me and my fellow students go back to uni (or school). I want a laptop too, but am going to hold on0

It definitely would suffice. It comes all ready for wireless connection - no need to buy any extras to get connected.

You'll be surely waiting forever .. You surely just couldn't hang on and wait .. by the time the price gone down, the new and more powerful notebook looks more tempting and you'll be in the waiting cycle again.0 -
It is very tricky knowing when the right time to buy a computer bt generally the longe you can hold out the better...of course, if you gotta buy, then you gotta buy!
The key is to look for dis-continuities such as a new version Windows OS or hardware technologies such as processors.
At this time, the new technology takes over the old price point and the old technologies have to be reduced to make room for new stock. In either case, you should be a winner!
BTW, expect Vista to be a Q1 07 product ie. not before Christmas but after...:rolleyes:0
