First problem with installing wireless Netgear Router DG834G, the line router cable with the RJ11 plugs isn't long enough. I need about 2 meters to get from the BT socket to the Router.
I am on aol gold and want to hook up 2 other laptops to the internet.
I'm wondering if i can use the cable i use now with the old router (which would be long enough) instead.
Can i do this or have i got to get a specific cable.

Shouldn't be a problem to use the same cable..........How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I have looked closely at the connectors, and although they are the same shape, the internals look slightly different. I don't want to waste days trying to fix this up only to discover that i should of got a proper cable. I think i just need lots of reasurrance before ripping all these cables out.Not ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j0

I've got a massive box of mixed cables. I use whichever one I need to suit the job. I've never found RJ11 cables wired any differently. I've mixed and matched these and never found a problem.
Plug it in to your new router, turn the power on, and see if the connection lights come on. I don't think it will be a problem. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Only thing u need to check is if the wires inside the rj45 connector are in the same order at each end. If they are then this is a straight through cable.. industry standard is
orange and white
orange
green and white
blue
blue and white
green
brown and white brown.
but aslong as they are in the same order at each end then it should be fine.0 -

Where did RJ45 come from? The OP was asking about the phone line cable with RJ11 connectors. Only the centre pins 3 & 4 are used but it doesn't matter if more are wired.
