Devon - ideas for teens/family days out please

Have booked a cottage at Great Torrington in Devon for late August. Does anyone know the area well and can advise good days out for a family with boys 12 & 16. Think they may like to do some surfing, what would be the best surf school to use? If anyone has local knowledge would be great to know what facilities are around. Thanks.

Hi, the beach at Croyde is great, ideal for surfing, Saunton Sands is another lovely beach. Depending on your kids interests your ideally situated for the Tarka Trail, no doubt there is local cycle hire places, Lundy is a lovely place to visit, we went on a weekend away with a large group of friends a year ago near Great Torrington and visited SouthDowns Adventure with quad bikes, buggies and clay pidgeon shooting - should keep teenagers happy. We actually live in Devon but are planning a weekend break up to North Devon this summer as have only been on day trips before, you will have a great time, its beautiful.0

I am heading down to Combe Martin (Just outside of Ilfracombe) tomorrow, does anyone local know how the weather is atm?
And any recommendations in particular?0 -
Hi, weather was bad last night, and cloudy this am, looks like rain over dartmoor (I can't see Dartmoor at the moment, which is never a great sign) but supposed to be getting a bit brighter over the weekend. The weather in Devon is completely random, when we had the snow in January was clear at the bottom of the hill I lived on, but when you came up the hill, was like entering Narnia.I am heading down to Combe Martin (Just outside of Ilfracombe) tomorrow, does anyone local know how the weather is atm?

Hope this helps although a bit general.0 -
