vat registration and new vehicle?

hello there,
im in the process of starting my own small business.
basically it is going to be a partnership and will be funded by savings.
i am actually looking to buy or lease a van(not sure which would be the best option?) something like a vauxhall vivaro and was wondering if i would need to be vat registered before i purchase anything for the company to be able to claim vat back on any items?
or can i buy now register later then claim back vat?

any other help or info on this or anything else would be of great help.

thanks paul.

not 100% sure, you can claim VAT on a car (vehicle) but you may be able to claim capital allowances.
