Electoral roll lists previous occupant as living with me!

I’ve just checked my entry on the electoral roll and the previous resident is listed as ‘other occupant’.
Judging by the amount of ‘urgent’ post I’m receiving, and the fact that the meters were changed during her residency to pre-payment meters, I’d say she has a very poor credit history, probably owes money, and I'm worried this will affect my credit rating which I’m trying to improve after eight years living abroad. I don't have a forwarding address for her.
What can I do?

Check your credit file - if there are any linked persons then make sure you inform the credit companies that this is incorrect. Just because the electoral roll is wrong does not mean that your files are linked. Living at the same address is not enough to do this, you have to have joint financial products. However do check with all 3 credit agencies just to make sure.
If you want then contact the electoral roll and inform them that xyz has not lived at this address for x amount of time, please update records.
And keep returning mail with "moved away in x month y year" and stick them back in the post box.

Have you filled in an Electoral Register form?

That would have given you the opportunity to delete the previous occupant from the Register.

Where have you seen the entry? online electoral registers usually show previous occupants. Check the entry on the original one held by your council.

I checked on 192.com after receiving the MoneySavingTips email this morning. I've emailed the local council which is where I filled in my Electoral Roll form earlier this year so I could vote (I can't remember anything which said I could remove any previous occupant, only to delete me from the roll of where I lived previously in England.) I moved into this house on April 1st.

192.com is often mistaken on the electoral roll and who lives in a house.
