Skirting board

Hi all, some advice please,i am renewing some skirting board,two pieces either side of the fireplace, both pieces are aprox 4 foot in lengh, the walls have been replastered ,would i be able to glue the skirting board or do i need to screw them to the wall,if i can glue them can anyone recomend any adhesive? thank you for any replies.
