Balance transfer from Mbna Amex to Natwest

I have some debt on an mbna bmi amex card. I have just applied for a Natwest card and been accepted and I was hoping to transfer the balance onto this. On the online application I entered the card number and amount and there was an error message insisting the card number needed to be 16 digits. Of course the Amex card only has a 15 digit number. Do they do Amex transfers?
Also the actual Natwest application came up with an error message at the end. Anyone know the best non-0870 number to check that it went through ok? Saynoto0870 gives lots of different numbers.

I don't know of any 0800 numbers for Natwest application team.... do you have natwest/rbs bank account? Call them on the overseas number back of the debit card, this is cheaper than the expensive 0870 numbers. Sorry if this is not much help mate. Im sure you can balance transfer by phone. It looks like there is a software problem online - system unable to recognise 15 digts for amex cards.
Just of interest, i recently got bmi amex card. Did you have any adverse when you got accepted by MBNA? I am thinking of changing to bmi plus amex card, so i dont know if this is possible to do this by just "upgrading"?0 -
Natwest may not actually accept transfers from Amex issued cards, even if the lender is not Amex itself. I know most probably don't accept it from Diners Club cards - may just be based on the format itself.
But the easiest way to tell, is on the falldown, if it offers Amex as a card type then it will change the format for the card #, if not then they dont accept.0 -

I didn't really have much credit history at all when I got the bmi. Just one credit card and one mobile contract, nothing adverse though. Not sure about the upgrade issue, never even heard of the plus card, sorry.Natwest may not actually accept transfers from Amex issued cards, even if the lender is not Amex itself. I am starting to worry they just don't deal with Amex cards. There is no drop down menu or anything, you just enter a card number and I assume it works out the card type (visa or mastercard) from the number.
I will try phoning Natwest on the 0800 card applications number tomorrow.0 -
No don't worry about that, just dial any old CC customer services # as it is 24 hours and just press random #'s on the touch pad until they put you through to an operator - otherwise the applications team may end up taking you through the whole thing just to find out - and another thing, is the BT done before the application is submitted made like with most lenders? Or is it a case of after acceptance do you enter the BT info? The latter would be an absolute disaster as it would re-score and search you several times. Somebody who works for their Customer sevices should be able to let you know.
Just as a general FYI btw Natwest are cutting down on a ton of facilities and services - by the fall they will not offer any interest (credit interest that is) of any sort at all on current accounts, they no longer approve most of their credit cards for people who are not existing customers and all the same is for RBS too.
Is it because you are an existing customer you have gfone for the 0% (15 months) BT offer? Even if not you can find similar deals with equally annoying lenders like MBNA and Virgin, who do acually hae Amex cards and will almost certainly allow it. Their system at Natwest is shoddy not to even have the fall down for card options and if it is just for one long # then they may not bother with the fall down as it can only be one format. And they did sever their ties with Amex recently (well a few years back) when they quit with the Airmiles card. I think your best bet may be to try elsewhere..0
