Ferry to Europe - which are best?

Planning on driving from Edinburgh to Poland, what ferries should I consider? I know there's a Newcastle to Amsterdam one, and Dover to Calais.
Finding it hard to get a place on the Newcastle one though, and the Dover one is much cheaper but it working out at 500 miles more driving and 7hr 45min extra driving.

What about the Rosyth Zeebrugge crossing? Would also save you a lot of driving.0

Costs an absolute fortune, we're talking £700+0 -
Euro Tunnel is much quicker than the ferry and you come straight out onto the motorway0

Use a route planning to work out the mileage to your destination via each of the ferries available (see here http://www.directferries.co.uk/routes.htm). You then need to compare the cost of fuel/extra driving against the ferry cost.
As a wild guess I would say that Dover works out the best route because of the competition.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Consider Stena Line Harwich - Hook of Holland. They have quite reasonable rates if you can book ahead.
Still quite a drive from Edinburgh, but it saves you the drive around London and breaks your long journey nicely, especially if you opt for the night crossing.
Alternatively, there is also Hull - Rotterdam with, I believe, P & O.0 -
Hull to Rotterdam is prohibitively expensive in my experience.Hope is not a strategy.0

Hull-Rotterdam is the best bet if you're planning on driving to Poland, to be honest - Amsterdam isn't so convenient for getting towards Germany. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.

I would use the Harwich-Hook of Holland, they have just this year got new Superferry which you can see video of on their website, looks great. Nice drive down from Edinburgh, 6 hour crossing for a decent rest, then 10+ hours on to Poland.
I will be using them myself for my trip to Poland, but on the return leg of my trip. Looking forward to not being so tired on the final leg of the journey as I usually am when I use Dover/folkstone.
Cost me £166, oversize car, 4 adults, 1 child, 2 dogs, daytime sailing so no cabin at extra cost, booked using Tesco clubcard, so Free for me.
If you do the tunnel, or the dover crossing, you may need to factor in the exta cost of a hotel for the night as this journey would indeed require a good break.
Have a good trip.0 -
DFDS has just taken over Norfolk Lines ( Dover to Dunkerke ) might be worth a look as you can now combine any of the sailings they run !A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !
