Tipping your hairdresser

Do you tip? If so how much? I usually leave a tip with receptionist for my stylist so hairdresser doesn't really know that I have left anything as presumably it all gets lumped together.
I would love to know what you do?

I usually give them a couple of quid extra - last time I went it was a tenner, so I gave her £12 and said "there's a little tip for you there as well." I do find it awkward/embarrassing though.0

I generally give my hairdresser a couple of pounds and i give the junior who washes/ rinses my hair a pound or so too, been going to the same hairdresser for years and I'm always pleased with the result so I like to leave them a wee tip .And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth
When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like
Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood0 -
I usually have a dry cut which takes 10-15 minutes at the most, it costs £11 so I give my hairdresser an extra £1 when I pay and tell her to keep the change. I find it embarrassing though.0

10% is the recommended tip amount, I get my hair cut as a hair model (can't afford a regular salon) but theres not always an opportunity to tip, especially if I have had my hair cut in an academy and its already free. I usually tip if I really like what they have done and more importantly, they are not looking at me expectantly, (following me over to the till whilst another colleague charges me and hovering around without saying anything to me or the cashier, just waiting- that really puts me off!) I do try to tip good work though! £5 is the usual amount.0

I always tip (assuming I have the cash on me) and go for 10% plus round up to the nearest five.Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0

I always tip - usually 10% or sometimes a bit more to make it a round number.CC debt: £0/£9 0000

Do you tip if they own the salon?0

I'm glad someone's asked this as I'm never sure what's the done thing! I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it awkward. To be honest I don't believe in tipping at all - why would you tip the person who cuts your hair but not the person who serves you in the supermarket - they're both giving a service and are on low wages? As I'm not on particularly high wages I decided it was ludicrous to tip for what was already an expensive outlay for me, but as I do go to the same place all the time, I do put a fiver in the Christmas tip box when I go in December. I pay on my debit card so I don't feel obliged to say 'keep the change'. Ooh I sound a right meanie don't I?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

I usually tip about a fiver, but I don't go often, so it's not that much.
I don't get embarrassed about money at all though.0 -
I usually tip a couple of pounds. My haircut costs about £20, so this is about right. When I have my colour done though, it can cost up to £80 or £90, so I tend not to tip then as this is a lot of money for me!!10/10 [STRIKE]£12,156.26 [/STRIKE] 11/10 [STRIKE]£11,950[/STRIKE] 04/11[STRIKE] £12,500 [/STRIKE]Ooops! Okay, back on track - 01/2014 £2,800, 05/2014 £4,500 (my car died!)
