Early Release fee from my 12-month tenancy agreement

There are other options than disdain and prostrating oneself! Being a soldier doesn't make you a better person than doctors, nurses, social workers, teachers, police officers, firefighters or indeed any other public service career.
I meet plenty of potential recruits and ex-servicemen in the fitness industry, don't recall any saying they applied simply to serve their country. You chose to endanger your life and you chose to accept a pittance. I would like to much higher payouts to those who are injured or disabled, however.
Yes firefighters, another underpaid industry who were heckled when they went on strike for better pay. Again you only see there worth when they are dragging your loved one out of an inferno. When they were striking it was the forces who came to rescue, I was there . I was also there when we were burning all the cows to prevent mad cow disease.Debt free. March 2020

I would actually suggest that the majority of tenancy agreements are actually 6 months as standard.
I dont think saying someone is trying to wriggle out of paying something has anything do with his profession. Reading the thread he is actually trying to 'wriggle out of paying' so a perfectly valid statement.
Again, Mobile phone issues sorted as you say, but it wouldnt have been an issue in the first place for a PAYG user. I hope you can appreciate there is a difference between a mobile phone multinational and a LL that owns a single terrace house for rent, for example?
I havent displayed any ignorance towards the armed forces as this thread is about a tenant and his tenancy agreement, not a soldier and his profession.
You seem to be brusing over the fact that the O/P is a LL as well as a soldier so should really know better.
I never said you displayed any ignorance towards the armed forces, it was the reply from firefox which I did find insulting. I have noted the OP is also a landlord. I do feel a little slack should be afforded to our armed forces. We should be proud of them and help out where we can. The mobile phones have been sorted, but why should a serving member of the armed forces be limited to PAYG mobiles. They are far more expensive and even when service personal are in the Uk they are often on the other side of the country to their loved ones, so would use their mobiles a lot more. Surely you can see a company say the size of O2 could be a little more accommodating to a guy in Afghanistan and suspend his contract till he gets back. I doubt O2 would feel it in there profits.Debt free. March 2020

You clearly have zero idea what I know, see or think about firefighters striking or bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Pay being low is a completely separate issue to whether you deserve unqualified respect, and irrelevant to the OP who clearly has a wage AND rental income coming in.I never said you displayed any ignorance towards the armed forces, it was the reply from firefox which I did find insulting. It wasn't I who said the OP was trying to wriggle out of paying, dearest. I responded when you intimated that there should be one law for servicemen and one for the rest of us, then complain "IT'S NOT FAIR"!! :rotfl:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Can I please just set the record straight.
1. I totally understand what is in my AST I'm not trying to wriggle out of anything. I'm fully prepared if my LL does not wish to engage in negotiation to pay his costs, but he will get the absolute minimum co-operation from me, I was happy to hand this property back even if I had 3 weeks in the last month to go; he'll get it back on the day it is due. I see the minimum fee as a start point to negotiation. I can guarantee that you would all do the same in my position with just short of £1000 to find! If he'd simplified his condition to state actually what he wanted there would be no thread and no discussion.
2. I was hoping for a balanced view from others to see how far I can take this - I am starting to get it.
3. My LL completely ignored my requests and did not even acknowledge them, hence I raised the stakes - after all a fool and his money are easily parted. He cannot bury his head in the sand and not talk to me.
4. I did not sign the AST in the knowledge that I would be posted. I was assigned 300 miles from where I was serving with one days notice, to fulfill a priority post that needed my skill set.
5. I joined the Armed Forces to serve my country and in the process receive first class training, pay, career and qualifications - there are some things I have to tolerate in order to 'pay' for these perks, I'm sure you all know what they are.
6. Whilst I will never look for sympathy only support, I thought those that do not know should be informed that we in the Armed Forces sit in the same category as travelers, families who have children with social care orders etc. Not very nice when you're trying to do your best by your family.
7. In my life I have found that not everything is as black and white as some may think. It is because I am a LL that I want to negotiate; I have the confidence to do so. these clauses were actually designed to protect the tenant not the LL; does not feel that way to me.
8. If I find any other things I'll let you know.
ps those of you that have medal like embellishments that adorn your profiles need to get out and about and think about what it might be like to earn some real ones, rather than be self righteous - just joking before you all identify yourselfs and go off on one !0 -

I am not saying anything about laws, I am saying lets cut a little slack for people who are prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the country, whatever their intentions were for joining up. They have enough stresses in their lives( i know we all do), but I reckon the guys fighting for their country and their loved ones stresses would put our problems into perspective in the majority of cases.Debt free. There is no problem, the OP just wants to see if he can extract himself from the contract without paying the admin fee he agreed to at the start of the tenancy. If you want special treatment for squaddies crack on and write to the OP's landlord instead of arguing the toss with us.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I think you are incorrect there, the OP is willing to pay the min £495.00 as per contract the LL seems to expect £820 + vat to pay his choice of agent, I would suspect some backhanders going on between the LL's choice of LA and the LL as the LL would be no worse off if he allowed the OP to use the less expensive choice of LA.0
