Are there any website or utility programs which can interrogate/analyse your mothboard and work out the fastest processor the motherboard can handle?
I have a 3 yo motherboard running an AMD 1.8mhz, and I wanted to ramp it up as much as possible.
The manual doesnt refer to any other processors as the 1.8 was the fastest chip at the time

It would be nice to know what the motherboard is. The manufacturer will often update a list of compatable processors. There may be bios upgrades to support the recognition of newer processors.
AMD have given up making Socket A processors. Find out about sockets here.
There is a freeware utility called CPU-Z that will identify your processor and motherboard. See http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
