I would stay well clear of as you put it 'Cheque cashing places' they charge something stupid like 15%.

I dont think you will get it cleared today, and the only other way I know of is the special clearance through your own Bank and they charge something like £12-£15 and it takes 24 hours.......of course someone else may know different and come along shortly.....

  • You can pay Halifax £12 to get it express cashed (as said above) - they send the cheque to the payees bank by post - then the Halifax call the next day to see if it has been paid. It would rely on the post and the other bank - so no guarantees

you are too late now though - you would have needed to do it at the time you pay cheque in

if your account takes 7 working days i'm guessing you have the cardcash - have you now tried for current account which is 3 days?

You could ask the person who gave you the cheque to do a funds transfer via BACS?

You would get it cleared in your account after 3/4 days, and give them back the cheque to cancel.

I think that 10 days is a bit long to clear a cheque!

    :)

  • Hi went to bank and asked to get it cleared sooner, they said because it was a crossed cheque and it was an english bank it would have to go through their clearance system!

    Thanks for help though:T

If you get cheques regularly, it may be time to consider changing banks - ten days seems a long time to wait before access to your money.
