Must admit, that bit seems horrifying to me - why would you want to sunbathe next to your car? Surely the point of a beach is to get away from noise, pollution, traffic etc, not to bring it with you!
Thank you all for your feedback, think it might be back to the drawing board for us - although perhaps worth a visit, will only be an hour and half drive or so, just to see it with our own eyes!
OK it was strange but fun. You don't have to lug your gear down from the car park to the beach. You can bring heavy stuff such as a proper BBQ. You can listen to the radio.

I live in Sittingbourne near Sheppey. Admittedly it does have it's chavy areas (but doesn't everywhere?). Leysdown is notorious for being popular with Londoners. Sheerness is okay. The High Street is symbolic of most places - many of the smaller shops disappearing whilst Tescos takes over everything.
Bluetown is known for its cement works. A factory produces cement garden ornaments of various shapes and forms which are very popular and many people paint. There are also a couple of good farm shops with local produce in dotted along the main road towards Eastchurch. There is also a small garden centre with tea rooms outside Sheerness close to the Pontins (I think?) holiday park.
Warden Bay and area has had much work done to it and is especially popular with holiday companies. One of the reasons for this is because of coastal erosion.
Our favourite place is the Leas on Minster, a five minute drive from Sheerness. You can park for free on top of the cliffs next to a grassy area ideal for picnics, dog walking and for children. On good days its very popular as most people tend to be local. You can walk along the prom right in to Sheerness if desired. It has also just introduced some new gym equipment on the prom. These are for visitors to use and are fun ways to exercise whilst outside. We have watched many people young and old try these out and what's great is it gets people talking too!0 -

NOOOO isn't the Isle of Sheppey mean't to be ... better not put that in text.. Better to try Romney and Hythe way for the Beaches which are sandy. We drove through Hastings last week and they have a long way to go to get themselves back again. Shame as the old part of town wheere the fish men are is nice. BexHill-On-Sea , Little Common older community but nice area0

I spent every school holiday in Leysdown as a kid, was great back then, not anymore I'm afraid.
Sheerness is nice, my aunt runs a B+B there, if anywhere I would pick there.0
