Home to duty allowance

Options
Hi, my OH (who is in the army) is moving in my flat with me and has just put in his application for home to duty allowance. Do you know how long it could take for it to be processed?

Thanks

  • At this stage in the month I would expect it to be in next month's pay with this bit backdated and then the normal amount from September. Has he got permission to live out etc? How far do you live from his work?

There are some conditions attached to Home to duty, you pay for the first part of the journey, so if you live close it will not be a great deal. Also you have to make so many journeys per month.

As stated above if processed now it should next months "pay run", you might be lucky and hit this months.

By the way I believe you can also claim if you cycle to work, its alot greener, good phys and at some places encouraged.

Personal contribution is 9 miles. After that the forces will pay upto 50 miles. Pay run for this month is already done (early) so you'll get it in Sept pay.

Make sure the application to live out of completed properly or you may have issues.
  • I hope they haven't done August's pay run yet though!? I'm due an increment!!

They'll do Augusts payrun in August ;-)

They seem to be doing them before the 15th like they used to do in the past. This months was done on the 12th!!

If your increment is due after the pay run you will need to wait till the next month and recieve the backpay in the next month pay packet!!

Are you sure that's not GYH, JSP5whatever definitely states it's up to 50miles each way so, although I doubt you drive 318miles to and from work a day, if you do, I wouldn't spend your allowance yet as you'll have to give it back when they realise!

Ash, yea, my increment is due on 2nd Aug, it's just you said the HDT would go on Sept pay whereas I think it's probably due in August pay?

Out of interest, why are they doing the runs earlier? Are you SPS or just well informed?

The deadline has passed for the retro run (ie anything that happened before 30 June) that has been input this month, but I'm pretty sure that the cut-off for current month is 16 July.
