as I was washing my car, I realised my tax disc ran out on 30 April. I know what you are all saying, yes I have heard that one before. But its the truth. I have been on line for about 2/3 hours & tryong to contact the DVLA. when I am on line, it is saying the tax disc will start on 1 July. When I am on the phone to the automated voice, It says it is an offence to tax a car after its been untaxed........etc. I havent so far been able to talk to a human. I assume there are those people working at the DVLA. Oh & I havent recieved a reminder. I am sure of that. I am going to try the post office in the morning, but they will only try to give me a form. Any advice please:eek:

Expect an £80 penalty (the DVLA automatically do you now). You'll just get that through the post.

You should be able to buy tax tomorrow which will be valid straight away. You need to take your registration certificate. Don't drive to the post office!

Do you think it would be a good idea to give the police a call & explain the mistake,( as the computer will obviously spot it). Or just wait for the DVLA to send some notifiaction. I must admit, I am getting a little worried by it all. I purchased a new tax disc yesterday, dated from July not May!!!! Any thoughts on the matter please

You can't buy back dated tax discs.

Don't worry about calling the 5-0, too late for any of that.

Don't worry about any of it in fact, as has been said, the fine will be on it's way. What's done is done.

It is correct for the Tax to be back dated to the first of this Month (they are all dated from the first of the Month), you can't super back date the tax to fill the hole before the 1st of the current Month.

Don't phone the police, they won't care :)

Just tax your vehicle before you drive it and when the fine shows up from the DVLA pay it :)
