Returning an item without the receipt

Hi,
I haven't posted before but have taken lots of help and advise from you guys over time and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advise.
I bought a coffee table from Ikea a few weeks ago but lost the receipt. I have just called their customers services and was told in no uncertain terms that there is nothing I can do, they won't even give me a credit note if I return it.
I haven't opened the box it was in nor is the box damaged in anyway. There is no way I could have purchased the item in any other shop than Ikea as it is in the IKEA box it came in. They are still stocking the item and it wasn't in the sale either. I paid cash. Am I stuck with it???
Appreciate any advice.
Many thanks

Why were you returning it? And how did you pay for it? Cash?
If you're returning it simply because you changed your mind and purchased it in store, then i'm afraid you're relying on their goodwill to give a refund/exchange etc rather than statutory rights. You keep using that word. I was returning it to the IKEA store where I bought it and yes I paid cash.
Please don't say I'm stuck with it?!
If I am, anyone any advice on wording an email to Customer Services or the store manager to see if they'll take it back in good will?
Thanks again x0 -
If you know the date and time you purchased it you could ask them to check their sales register but that doesnt really prove YOU bought that table, only proves that that model of table was bought by someone at that time.
TBH even with a receipt, you are relying on the stores own policy/views to give you an exchange/refund.
You're not technically entitled to one unless the item is faulty or damaged and even then, they can request POP.
Have a look for the receipt if you think it might still be in the house. I had a similar thing happen where i thought i had lost receipts just 2 days after purchasing........turns out a friend had moved them without thinking to a place i would never look! Found them about a week later while looking for something else. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Not saying you are but if you cannot prove you bought it you could have stolen it and then got the money back for an item you have not purchased.
Unfortunately as you paid cash you have no way of proving that you purchased the item so you are stuck with itThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

A 'good will' refund is all you can hope for even if you had a receipt or proof of purchase. Sell it on ebay. collection only.0
