Were social services involved? Unless she had capital over (depending on the year) aprrox £22,000, she should have received some funding. It would ave been on a sliding scale if she had capital of between £12,500 & £22,000 (again approx depending on the year)

Ask for a breadown of the charges to see if she had received any funding.

As an example at the moment I pay care charges for my FIL. All his pensions are taken off him as a contribution towards his care except £22.30 a week for personal items (soap & clothing). As he has no capital left now except £13,000 social services pay the rest of his care.

It may be that the charges are made up of the amount your mom should have made out of her own income (pensions etc).

If social services were involved I would certainly be asking why you were not given information about funding.

    Good Luck.
