How Can I swith the water off

Hi,

I want to change the taps in my bathroom, I can do this easily as I have all the tools I need;
I have a problem as I don't know how to turn the water off(both hot and cold)

I live a in terraced house, built around 1970, I have hot water tank to store the hot water.

Where do I look in order to identify the easiest way to switch off the water so I can disconnect the old taps and fit the new ones?

any idea will be appreciated,

Thank you

    Turn off cold water at the mains, then open the hot and cold taps on your bath and sink, the cold should stop nealry straight away the hot will continue to run for a few minutes if you have a hot water tank.

    Once water stops change taps and if it were me id also fit service valves to both the hot and cold supplies to the taps, always useful if you ever need to do it again or change washers etc.

    Once done turn the taps you opened off, turn the cold water back on this will start to refill the header tank which in turn fills your hot water tank, eventually it will stop filling meaning the tank is full, however just make sure the valve doesnt stick sometimes they do !

    Also a good idea to turn the boiler controlls off whilst you do the work.

    Open the taps up to let the air out and should be job done, check for leaks as well.

    the first stopcock on the rising main will stop all the water. usually under the sink (in the kitchen).
    you may have to drain the water from both taps too. to drain any storage tanks.
    Get some gorm.

    The stopcock will more than likely be under the sink in the kitchen somewhere. It'll look like a brass tap connected to the water pipe.
