Paypal down?

I've been trying to pay for a purchase for the last two hours, and keep getting the message: "This function is temporarily unavailable. Please try your payment again later by returning to eBay and clicking the My eBay button."

Seems a long time for them to be unavailable.

Just wondering if this is a genuine outage or some problem with my particular transaction.

It's now five hours since I started trying to make a payment.

I can see my account and its details by logging into paypal, but I get this message when trying to pay even before it gets to the login page.

Has anyone succeeded in using it to make a payment today?

Has anyone else failed?

It is a problem with Paypal which they have known about since at least January.
This is what you need to do:

Contact the seller and ask him to send a "payment request" through paypal for the money, this will allow you to pay and should have all the details filled in.

OR

Ask the seller for his PAYPAL email address, then log into Paypal and click on "send money", fill in the relevent details and click send.

This will work OK.
Before anyone says that you won't be covered under Paypal protection (and what a joke that is), Ebay own Paypal, so make sure you choose "Ebay item" when you are filling in the details.

This works every time for me and I get at least 10 emails a week telling me their email addresses so I can send a request.
God knows why this happens but Paypal will not fix it.

As soon as I got the invoice I tried to pay using the link there in the email (oops - but it did give pp as the underlying address when hovering on the link and the payment is now shown in ebay) and it worked.

It seems you can't pay via an ebay page at the moment.

I have not been able to pay through eBay for Paypal payments since about March, it only works sometimes if I have multiple items to pay for. So I then decided to add the eBay account to pay which is now saying its temporarily unavailable and has been for the last 2 weeks, so I have to manually pay use Pay anyone, its annoying. I am using Firefox btw.
