Switching dilemma
Currently with Scottish Power (Gas & Elec) on Online Fixed Price energy until the end of Feb 2011, with no penalty to leave. Current best rate (capped until 2012) seems to be with Scottish Power. However if I switch, not only will I be paying more than I currently am, but I won't get the discount advertised by the comparison sites (plus a penalty to leave). Having rang Scottish Power, they state that they are 'likely' to offer me the same rates (as I am currently on), at the end of my current contract. They say that they have already done this with existing customers who's fixed price tarriffs have ended. Is this True, or am I being spun a tall tale? If the latter is the case, what are the options?

Let me think.
Stay on the same fixed price deal that goes onto next year or opt for a new deal that will be more expensive.
I'll have to think about that one; that sure is a difficult decison, eh?
Whilst I'm pondering that one, perhaps it'll give me time to give my crystal ball a shine to see if it'll tell me what'll happen next year ... but I'd be happy if it could just tell me the 6 numbers for next Saturday

As far as your last point is concerned, I'd say its safe to say you were being spun a tale, the person you spoke to at SP has about as much of an idea of what will be happening price/tariff wise in february as you or I do.
I know SP *have* extended capped/fixed price tariffs in the past at the same prices, but if prices go up between now and Feb (which I think is likely) then I very much doubt they will extend the prices of your current tariff...Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

Thank you PlushChris for your helpful comments. Its still a dilemma (pay less now / get stung later). I would appreciate helpful comments from MSE and any SP (or other companies) customers who have experienced a similar situation.0

Well, if it makes any difference I switched from the same SP tariff you mention to Ovo (Ovo took over my supply on 1st June) and I'm currently enjoying lower prices and FAR more accurate and clearer bills, although I'm now on a variable rate tariff (no longer available from Ovo)Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!
