Maplin

After getting consistently poor service from so many places recently I just wanted to start a thread to say what fab treatment I got from Maplin online this week.

Last sunday I ordered 2 items online and by tuesday morning they were through my letterbox. Very speedy despatch and delivery indeed! The only problem was that one item, a small torch, didn't work. That afternoon I called up customer service and they sent me a replacement straight away, without requesting the return of the broken one. I received the replacement on wednesday morning which works fantastically.

So Maplin have a huge thumbs up for me, not just for the speed of delivery (always a problem when you order online I find) but for their friendly, pleasant customer service staff and their great customer service. Normally getting a replacement involves sending off the broken one and waiting for them to receive it and despatch a new one about a week later. This was so not the case with Maplin :D

  • maplin have always had relatively good customer service, but their prices have gone thorugh the roof. Was in looking for a phone outlet 3 months ago, whilst on holiday. (fixing something for a mate), only to find their quality had dropped (cheaper make) and their price had doubled, asked why was told they were aiming at DIY market and not people in the know.

    B & Q were even cheaper :shocked:

  • A few years ago I had a problem with a DVD drive that I bought from Maplins. After about 6 months it died, and I sent it back. 4 weeks laer they still had it, so I called to chase. They told me that the model was discontinued, but they had just managed to track down a replacement. Otherwise, they said they would have to refund.

    As I had already purchased a replacement, I said that ideally I would rathr have the refund. The rep said just a minute and put me on hold. He came back a minute later and asked for my credit card numer to process a full refund.

    We ordered items from Maplins and was impressed with the service too.
  • Dont buy anything over £30 in Maplin, I have just been turned away from their Swindon branch by the manager who said that:-
    1. he was happy not to replace an unservicable laptop transformer despite it being within guarantee.
    2. he was happy that he was not complying with the Sale of Goods Act.
    3. he was happy that I would contact Swindon Trading Standards "as they are well aware of Maplin".
    4. he was happy that I had travelled 40 miles to be turned away.
    5. he was happy that I would have to wait up to 2 weeks for the transformer to be tested with no guarantee of replacement.
    6. he was happy that he could not give me a loan transformer.
    7. he was happy that my laptop is now out of action.
    Customer service? what customer service.
