Should I be worried?

I got sent an email by Ebay saying TKO account

"It appears your account was accessed by an unauthorized third party. To protect your account from further unauthorized use, we have temporarily restricted your account from sending email through Ask Seller a Question or Contact eBay Member, listing and bidding on items. Additionally, the email address on your account may have been tampered with, which is why you may not have received an email about any unauthorized activity. We have taken steps to secure your eBay account. "

So i've regained control of my account by resetting the password.

Is there any way of finding out what happened to my ebay account to flag it for Ebay?

I've stopped using it for a while so maybe I could just close it? I've never had an account of any sort being hijacked before and run my life on the internet so this is worrying...

Advice and reassurance please!

Be careful, it might not be genuine. DO NOT click on any links in your email. It could be a phishing email.

Check on the site. You usually get a copy of the email sent to you in your account.

Did you reset your password by going into ebay directly (not through any links in the email)?

    I really hope so.

If you clicked on any of the links in the email, you need to get in touch with ebay asap as the chances of this being part of a scam are high.

Nope, didn't click on links in email. And i checked that it's an ebay email, they send them out with your real name and ebay id (I hope that's secure!!).

I've had phishing emails for ebay before but never replied to them and always send them to ebay and paypal (although they never tell me any outcomes!)

Genuine eBay e-mails also appear in My Messages on eBay's site, as mentioned above.

I'm sure if you've reset your password you'll be ok, but like you I'd want to know what had caused them to send me the e-mail in the first place.

  • I got one of these too just now! Really frightened me! Came on here to try to find out if it was genuine. Like OP mine doesn't ask you to click through to change password but directs you to access the website and tells you how to change it from there.

and I just got an email from paypal saying I had signed up for
"You are signed up for PayPal's daily updating service for auction listings with PayPal logos for eBay."

and that Ebay had rejected it. Why don't Ebay just TELL us what happened to the account?
