This whole share dealing thing is confusing..

Anyone help!

Just thought I would dabble in my first share dealing ever so experimented buying M&S shares for the grand total of £15 on share.com but I seem to have been charged £7.50 for the pleassure. Is this the case with all share dealing sites does anyone know??

It is quite normal to pay that sort of figure for buying and selling shares. Effectively, you have just lost 100% of the money. i.e. £7.50 to buy. bid/offer spread on share price and £7.50 to sell is more than the £15 you bought.

It is normally pointless buying shares with such small amounts.

  • For the gains to outweigh the costs you really need to buy in lumps of 1k+, look at iii.co.uk who offer advance buying at £1.50.
