Paypal limitation

How you proceed is of course entirely up to you, but it seems a huge shame for you to lose your ability to use ebay again purely because of the actions of your friend. You tried to help him and as a result you lose possibly one of the largest online venues for your goods.
If you take any sort of legal action against paypal you stand a chance of winning, although I doubt it is a guaranteed win, but they will close your paypal account as they are perfectly entitled to do. Is there any way any form of gentle pressure can be put on your friend to clear the debt, and thus release your own account leaving you free to continue selling?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks again. But i have also been told it is likely they will close my account and my friend's account as soon as he pays.
Solicitor i spoke to claims to be familiar with paypal and states he has seen several instances where they have done this as soon as payment is received.
Aside from Solicitor's comments, i have also read on another forum of how a man's account was closed even after he settled his wife's debt with paypal.
Obviously, it might not be same for me but it clearly shows how badly they treat people0 -
The same person though was originally using both iDs to sell and receive payment. So if your colleague at work asked you to run his account for him while he was away and you continued to buy and sell using the same home address then yes you would be linked.
But they are two separate people, so what if they shared a computer? I'm talking legaly, not paypals made up laws.
Another example, say you and a flatmate both have (totally separate) accounts with the same bank. Your flatmate uses your pc for online banking, and as part of this transfers their share of rent, bills etc on a regular basis into your account. You also use online banking on the same pc, you may also occasionally pay the flatmate back.
Perfectly legal that isn't it?
They run into arrears on their account. Would the bank be able to freeze your funds and cancel your debit card until the flatmate has paid off their arrears? Would you expect a letter from your bank to that effect?
Those who think paypal are justified here...think again!!!0 -
Many thanks Astec. I am delighted you can see where i am coming from.
Even if i can't get them to overturn this, at least i am pleased there are people like you out there who can see and tell injustice instantly.
While i respect people's right to air their opinion, i am still at loss as to how anyone that has actually read and studied my situation can attempt to defend paypal.
We live in civilised world where the rule of law must be respect and not some jungle.
Quite bizarre coincidence that the Solicitor i spoke to actually made reference to the internet banking example by members of same household just like you did. As they say, great minds think alike!
BTW, i have also spoken to the office of my local MP and his PA was quite keen and interested in this matter. He actually confided that they receive quite a number of paypal related complaints.0 -
You need to speak to Paypal and offer to provide proof of the two separate accounts, but clearly explain how the situation arose.
I do some consultancy work for ebay sellers, and have logged into at least 10 different businesses/individuals accounts from the same PC in the last year. So far none of those accounts have been restricted, but I have had to verify my ID a few times, as well as do the telephone verification upon logging on to the other account.
You need to keep pestering the CS telephone line and ask for the issue to be escalated to a senior rep or team leader - multiple accounts from one PC is not that an unusual occurance and there is a process for them to deal with it.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Thanks mate, i have done excatly that - both verbally on the phone and in writing. But sadly, it is as if i talking to a piece of brick.
Last comment i had was 'our computer says the two accounts are same, hence it must be same cos computers don't lie'
They also stated that they are not really bothered about multiple people logging from same 'puter or location but are actually concerned when one of these accounts has issues like negative balance!!!!
So, the summary of all this is that you can have many users in same address or PC, but it is your responsibilty to ensure they dont go overdrawn!!!! SUrely, this can't be acceptable0
