Home Grocery Delivery: Do you check for missing items before the driver leaves?

We sometimes order our groceries online from Asda. When the drivers arrive they always seem in a huge rush so we just help to unload the shopping and sign to let them go before checking for missing items. We usually order about £150 worth of food and had not come across any major problems (apart from the odd missing item).
However, on the last occasion almost £40 of food was missing. It was mainly expensive items such as steak and meats. The driver arrived late and was very unhelpful too (not actually bringing the shopping to the front door and leaving it at the bottom of our steps for us to collect).
As soon as we noticed the food was missing we called Asda to report it. It took almost a week of constant phone calls and hassle until they eventually said they were refunding us for the food. Initially they were going to redeliver it, so we waited 1 week without the food, which was extremely irritating as we usually prepare the family meals in advance.
Now I am wondering what the 'norm' is - should you check the food is all present before signing and letting the driver go?

I never check before they leave as it would take too long. I usually do my shopping with Tesco and if anything is missing I email them rather than phone. That way I get a refund with no messing about, instead of waiting for another delivery. I've always found Tesco very good at refunding.
On the one occasion I had something missing from Asda I rang them for a refund and found them very slow. A week had gone by and I had to ring again to remind them.
Personally I think Tesco are a lot better.0 -
DONT ring the 08thingy number you are just getting through to south africa believe it or not.delivery driver told me to ring the store as i constantly find maybe one low value item missing evry couple of weeks.i rang and ended up with 2 free delivery evouchers:D.
one week a 'chill' bag was missing with cheese, chicken tikka fillets, bacon, etc etc in,value about 12 quid.rang the store and it had been redelivered within 2 hours and i got a voucher then aswell.
and no i dont check before the driver goes, would be there all day! i actually got an extra bag of shopping on a tesco delivery a while ago,3 bottles of wine.rang and told them, didnt want the driver getting into hassle, after an hour they rang me and told me to keep it as it would take the driver too long to come back for it.Shine on you crazy diamond..............0 -
I never check when the driver is with me as it will take too long.
On the odd occasion I have had to call Asda with missing items, they have been extremely helpful and the money is always back within 3 days in my bank.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. I've been ordering groceries online for years and it was the first time anything major was missing. The most disappointing thing was the customer service and the 1 week of waiting for redelivery only for Asda to change their minds and refund us instead.

never heard of the items actually being missing, only substituted for something unrelated and unwante. for me asda online is very unreliable, i much prefer tesco for customer service. but back to the op, i always check as its my money thsat ive spent , so i want to know that i havent been shortchanged, and if its cost me at least £5 for the delivery i dont care if there in a rush!!!0

I usually use sainsburys and never check before the driver leaves, only had a problem once when it appeared he had not given us a bag of freezer stuff (kids icecreams - they were very disappointed!) but rang Sainsburys and the store manager called me straight back explained that the driver wouldn't be able to redeliver that night and asked me the prices of the missing items and refunded them straight away.0

do people actually check all their shopping off the list while the driver is still there?
I have never done that! the only time it's happened to me (with sainsburys), I was unpacking my shopping and they had missed a bag which contained some wine (  ).. I was straight on the phone and they immediately refunded me.... and OH was immediately in the car on his way to the co-op to get some more (it was a Friday evening!!)0
