Where to buy citronella?

Options
Was watching "How clean is your house" tonight and they recommend using citronella to keep spiders and other bugs away.
We have moved to a house on the edge of some woods and get the hugest spiders I have ever seen in my life!!
Need to know where I can buy this stuff from....so I can cover the entire house with it!!
When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!

because spiders apparently taste through their feet, and because they don't like citronella, if you use citronella on a cloth to clean (or after cleaning?) a wall, they won't come back. i think it was diluted with hot water, then just rubbed over - not too much, but hopefully enough to keep them away!

  • Thought I'd ask on here where to get citronella, not the only one!! Do you buy an essential oil or is it less oily than that - if that makes sense. I don't want to wipe oils on my wall if its the wrong thing!
  • I trained awhile back as an aromatherapist and we had to learn all about ess oils! From memory citronella is a lemony smelling oil and has antiseptic qualities. Its the oil that's used in all the insect repellant lotions and candles. I used to buy a few at a time so got them a bit cheaper but I think it is about £3 for a 10ml bottle. You may be able to get something similar at pound shops but it will be synthetic so will not have the same properties. Boots sell it if you have a firly big one that has a vitamins and oils section or health food shops like holland and barratt. I like this oil and sometimes put a couple of drops in the bath as well.
  • Chemists used to sell it.
My sister was also told it also got rid of wood lice?
It also stops mosquito's wasps bees and flys if you burn it in a oil burner you can get the oil already made up for burning in oil lamps from the hardware shop or grden center.
