Advice needed re subletting and laws!

The council found the place for me and it was on a 5 year lease. I was almost 4 years into the contract.
I believe that the council passed me onto the agents, that way I had no deposit to pay.
My rent goes to the council who I believe pass it on.
Saying that I have no contact at all with the council only the LA and landlord who always pops round. Repairs are done by the LA.
I stopped paying rent as soon as I had found out. As the sub-letters never paid the rent that month, the bank rejected my rent standing order. I haven't paid since. The landlord didnt consent, he just said he understands and will turn a blind eye. Im not even sure how the agents found out. He knew it was only for a few months, I had planned on staying 6m but returned after 3m to try and find out what happened to my belongings.0 -

Do you still have a copy of the tenancy agreement, if so who's name appears under landlord? Council/Agentor the chap who popped round?0 -
The agreement was in the house with the rest of stuff.
im going to call the council now to try and find out.0 -
Just been told that my rent goes directly to the letting agents account and not the council.
The council said they put me intouch with the agents who then act on behalf of the landlord.0 -
