Faulty Freeview box from Netto - shop burnt down shortly after purchasing?

Hi all,
This is basically a hypothetical question because it happened a long time ago and I'm not interested in getting it resolved now. What I am looking for is what I could have done in the situation, at the time. Bought a Freeview box from Netto, got it home, tried it the next day and it was faulty, permanently remaining on standby and not properly working. Took it back to Netto when I next had time and found the shop had burned to the ground. What could I have done in that situation to secure a refund for the faulty item? Letter to head office? How could they arrange a refund for me?
Very interested to hear responses!

Letter to head office or arrange to visit another store.0

Would head office have been quick to supply me with a refund, though? Just advise them the shop had burned down and the box was faulty, and send it to them?
If only I had seen this site before! There's lots of useful information here.0 -

I think their head office might have some kind of knowledge that one of THEIR stores had burnt down...
And yes, either head office or another store would have refunded for you...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Maybe someone else had a faulty freeview box and took it a little too far?
Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Haha! I thought the same thing, at the time. The manager I spoke to (who was standing outside the shop when I arrived) informed me that it was most likely arson and not an electrical fire. The Freeview box I'm talking about was a piece of !!!!. Stuck on standby and the instruction manual was in garbled English that sounded as though it had been translated into a different language and then back into English again. I ended up throwing it out.0
