Why has seller asked to get paid this way?

Hi there,
I have bought a few small items on ebay from a seller in Jersey small electronic stuff like wireless optical mouse. When I have won the auction I get an email from ebay asking me to pay now which I do with the given seller email address on paypal.
However at the same time I get an email from seller telling me not to attempt to send money to this email address as it will hold up order, which I have always ignored and paid through paypal. Paying through payal doesn't hold up the order as I get a confirmation email from seller straight away confirming that he has received payment.
If I follow the link that the seller gives on his first email I am taken to his checkout system whereby paypal is listed again together with alternative payment methods like credit card debit card etc. As stated I can also pay through paypal with his checkout system, but alternatives are given.
What is he up to, trying to avoid paypal fees? I have a bit of a beef with him as I returned a defective mouse, but he said he never got it. But I never bothered with negative feedback etc as I already had given good ...stopped working after a few days. He is a power seller with very good feedback overall but I think he is using 2 different id's selling on ebay as I have received items under 2 different id's from same retail unit.
But as regards his email asking me not to send money through paypal is this in keeping with ebay policy?

OMG, you already had a problem with him, and knew that he may have lied about returns etc in the past, didn't this set alarm bells off in your head and tell you not to order from him again?
No offence, but come on, if this guy is some kind of Del Boy why are you giving him your business? :A I love MSE!!! :A0 -
thanks for replies. Well he sells these items cheaply and has over over 2500 sales in one month with only 7 negative so must be doing something right as regards the goods he sells.
But my question is, is he breaking any ebay rules by doing what he does as regards paying?

Checkout systems are often used by big sellers on eBay and are certainly allowed within their rules, see http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/questions/payment-options.html : "Sellers have the option to use other checkout systems."
As I understand it checkout systems provide sellers with credit card clearing facilities and management facilities for running large numbers of auctions.0 -
Its your choice how to pay and if Paypal is listed...use it. He obviously prefers the other method as presumably it has lower fees for him. Its not necessarily a scam.0

There are a lot of bigger sellers who do this. This will link his transactions to his accounting and packing slip/invoice software. It will just allow him run his business more efficiently.
Assuming you use HIS PayPal link you will end up going through the normal PayPal page just at a later stage. As you say his feedback is fine so I would use it.
Oops sam got there before me!0 -
I dont think that I would follow it to be honest - if he states that he accepts paypal I would go through the normal paypal process then if there are any problems at a later date you have followed the correct procedure.Weight Loss - 102lb0
