Holiday Home insurance in Spain

Options
I'm looking for insurance on a property in Spain. It is a holiday home so there will be long period when it is left empty. For the last 8 years I've used MAPFRE but I know that I can get cheaper. The question is where? As anyone any advice?

If you know that you can get cheaper, why is where the question?

If a shop was selling a loaf of bread for £10 I'd assume that you would think that you could buy a loaf of bread cheaper in another shop.
Likewise my insurance is over-priced and I'm looking to buy insurance cheaper elsewhere. The problem is where? I have a couple of quotes from brokers, both of which are about half what I paid last year. Unlike my domestic insurance I haven't been able to find a comparison website & so the aim of my question was to use the experience of other moneysavers to find a company that offers value for money.

I'm still slightly confused. You seem to have answered your own question. The answer is, "from a broker". You claim to want value for money - although value for money and cheapness don't always go hand in hand - and say you've already halved last years' premium.

    What more do you want?

As I understand it, one of the aims of this site is to help one another to to obtain value for money. This is what I'm trying to do.
I do not find your remarks at all helpful & can only assume that you have got to your large number of posts, in a relatively short time, by posting a great number of similarly fatuous remarks

    ok then....

There are basicaly two ways of arranging your insurance but no doubt you are already aware. You can buy it in Spain - there are lots of brokers and insurers there geered up to cover UK resident's holiday properties and this appears to be what you did by going to MAPFRE. You can also buy here where there are a few specialists:

A family memeber has a policy for his property in france with Intasure and reported their sales service excellent for what they felt was a very fair price. They cover most european countries and more besides. http://www.intasure.com/

You can also find a quote online from Hiscox, the high net worth insurer. From Hiscox you can be generaly assured of excellent claims service but it won't be too cheap - they offer high service for demanding and usualy wealthly customers: http://www.hiscox.co.uk/personal-and-home/overseas-holiday-home-insurance/?S=k2675&kw=p47240173&p=1&m=1&c=00029

It is fair to say that Chubb could also offer something, but without intending to be rude they are unlikley to be appropriate for you - their customers probably don't know that mse exists!

Schofields, who are an underwriting agency, also have an offering - they can be found at www.schofields.ltd.uk.

Finaly I am aware of an offering from a company called Ibex - http://www.ibexbrokers.com/home/eurohome.asp

I have no experience of the last two companies, but they are probably worth a look. It would almost certainly be worth shopping arround 1 or 2 brokers in Spain as well, but you may decide that you preffer to deal with a UK company if you have a claim.

Off topic: To be honest about 50% of my HUGE (less than 5 per day) posts are fatuous. The rest are an awesome mixture of glib flippancy, controlled ire and bespoke sarcasm. You should probably read a few more of them before you assume anything.

On topic: With respect, your posts mention cheapness more than once rather than value for money. You won't know whether or not you have value for money until you use insurance. If you pay cheap you get cheap. Is the affordability of insurance a problem for you? I assume it isn't.
