Changing Eneregy Supplier

Does anyone know if there is an energy company out there which will allow you to transfer an outstanding gas/electricity balance when you transfer to them? You seem to have to clear your current balance, which always tends to run in arrears (wonder why this is!!) before you can switch provider.

Not heard of one. It will normally work by the new supplier asking/taking a reading when they create your account, which they send to your current supplier, who then total up what you owe them for payment0 -
That's what I have found to be the case to date, but as I can be up to £200 in arrears (depending on the time of the year) moving can be an lump sum expense. Wondered if I was alone or if many others find themselves 'trapped' in this way.0

have a look at section 2.5, not sure if this is applicable you would have to check with ofgem.

and look at section 2.7
