4 months with no sight of exchange - what to do now?

Yes maybe we could try that, so far we've communicated via the EA as I was under the impression that this was the way to do things but maybe we could put a note through their door asking to have a chat about it all.
So far we've been very accommodating -they have a young family and we don't have any children (unless you count 2 cats that are staying with my parents until we have a house again!) so felt bad trying to push a family out of their house. But now we feel that they should really move out to hold the deal together, especially as the reason for the delay is further up and nothing to do with us!
Might try that approach... thanks0 -
I feel your pain, we have had an awful chain which has been running for nearly 6 months now...it's been one thing after the other! I have reached a point today where enough is enough and I have posted a note through our buyers door to find out what is happening below them...I know people will ill advise of speaking to vendors / buyers directly, but I am getting no responses from the EA and Solicitors so this was my last resort.
In your case however, I would give an ultimatum - you have been very patient!0 -
Thanks for your support leap31, and sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having with your chain it sounds like a nightmare!!
At least we have one thing on our side in that we don't have anyone below us, so only one side of the chain to worry about.
I've made enquiries to our mortgage adviser and also to our solicitors to make sure we know the costs if we do end up buying another house instead, and off to see a really promising house tomorrow morning so we'll see what happens. Also waiting for some response back from the vendors about our message that we're looking at alternatives, I thought perhaps finding out that the chain was going to collapse might spur people on but I'm not that hopeful - everyone would have to do a lot now to convince me that it'll go through anytime soon!
Oh well we'll see how it goes, might try to speak to the vendor too and see if that helps.
Good luck leap31, hope you get somewhere with your buyers and gt your chain moving!0 -
Just an update - after much agonising we decided to go for the other house we had seen and we had an offer accepted, so we withdrew from the original purchase to pursue a rapid exchange and completion on the second house - hopefully exchanging this week! :-)
Feeling really bad about the vendors situation on the original house we were buying but we just couldn't hang on indefinitely with no-one givin us any sensible information - they have since offered to move into a rental and exchange contracts if we would stick with the purchase but for us it was just too late and we had lost faith that it would ever happen.
Anyway we're really excited about the new purchase now and can't wait to get contracts exchanged and move in - just hope it all goes through this time! Don't want to jinx it...and hoping the vendors of the original house can get a quick sale and complete their chain again.
thanks everyone for help - great to get peoples thoughts as very nerve-racking to go through the whole house-buying thing with little experience!0 -

You did what was right for you while giving the other side plenty of opportunity to sort things out, as they didn't you have nothing to feel guilty about.
I moved into rented to make sure the sale of my last flat went through as I was having problems with my purchase. I did this to make sure my sale went through, your vendors should have thought of this much earlier.0 -

Yeah, nice one!! They offered to go into a rental? They should have done that in the first place or at least have kept you up to date with things instead of ignoring you. Well done you.0

Thanks guys, that makes me feel much better about it all - yes we're trying to keep in touch with the vendors and keep everything amicable and friendly which is nice. Just worrying now that they are having difficulty signing up for a rental property before we are ready to exchange, we are almost ready just waiting for the mortgage deeds to come in the mail to sign and send back then we're done I think! I think I'll be waiting in for the postman tomorrow morning!
So frustrating wanting to do something to make sure it goes through quickly and smoothly but it's so out of our hands a lot of the time... still fingers crossed :-)0
