Selling house for my father who lives abroad

Hi all,
My father lives abroad and currently has a house that he wishes to sell. The house still has a mortgage.
Would it be possible for me to sell his house for him? During the whole process of selling the house would my dad need to come back to the UK?
My father only comes back to you UK for 2-4 weeks per year so just trying to get a general idea of the best way to go about getting his house sold for him.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Your solicitor would need to satisfy himself that you were properly authorised to act on behalf of your father. I think you will need something like a specific power of attorney, not too sure of correct name. There will also be capital gains tax to deal with and potential double taxation problems as well for the jurisdiction where your father is tax resident.
You need to find a solicitor who is familiar with these situations.0 -
Either you dad will need to sign documents which means sending them back and forth, or you will need to have Power of Attorney to sign on his behalf.0

Provided your dad can satisfy the solicitor his identity a lot can be done on email - it would be unlikely he would need to come to the UK. The only things he would need to sign would be the agreements with the solicitor the contract and transfer which could all be posted. It may be possible to take some instructions from you but the initial instructions would need to come from your dad.
Otherwise its getting an LPA put in place when he's back in the UK and then you can deal with the entire sale.
He'd need to speak to an accountant/ FA re tax implications as well.0 -
possible to use a local solicitor or notary to vary ID0

LPA = Lasting Power of Attorney??
I think that a more specific Power of Attorney is required, solely for sale of the house.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
