Unsolicited text saying we've ordered something
Sorry, not sure where to put this, as it's to do with a text that my husband received today on his mobile phone from TalkTalk saying
"Thanks for your TalkTalk order. Your order reference number is *****. We are working hard to set you up and will contact you about your engineer visit. Look out for your order confirmation letter in the post."
A few hours later he received a second text
"An engineer needs to visit your home to activate your TalkTalk phone and broadband service on 22nd July. If you cannot be at home on that day call us on 0870 444*** at least two working days before the day of the visit or you may incur a charge."
As we are happy with our current phone & broadband provider there's no way my husband would have placed an order, even inadvertently.
The whole thing seems like a scam to me. I'm worried that if we phone TalkTalk back on the number they gave that, not only will it cost us a small fortune in phone charges, but that they will also insist we have placed an order - it's effectively our word against theirs, so what can we do?
Please help us - this has totally stressed my husband out as our finances are tight at the best of times and we can't afford a costly battle with TalkTalk.
Also, how would they have got my husband's mobile number? He phoned Orange to ask them to block the number, but their only suggestion was that he change his number, which he's had for years and doesn't want to do that....also, why should he be bullied into doing that when this is totally unsolicited?

It sounds like you have been slammed. Advice to follow from ofcom here:
http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/telecoms/sales/unauthorised-change-of-provider-slamming/0 -
The other possibility of course is that TT have been given the incorrect number by the person who did order it or transposed it themselves.
Either way you need to get on to Talk Talk to sort it out and put your mind at rest.
0870 numbers are included in a lot of landline suppliers inclusive minutes these days, and if you havent got inclusive minutes their now normally charged the same as calling a 01/02/03 geographical number .
If you have been slammed you also need to speak to your existing supplier pronto to put a stop on it.0 -
Thank you so much for your advice - will phone TalkTalk - never thought they might have got the number wrong, but if they are slamming us, will follow the Ofcom link!!
Thanks again0 -
According to www.saynoto0870.com, Talk Talk do use a number that starts 0870 444 so it could be a genuine mistake by the person who gave the order. I'd suggest using their freephone number: 0800 0855900 and reading the text back to them.0800 0855900In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

Hi Beadiejay,
Can you confirm if you have been successful in stopping this order from completing.
It is likely to be an error from a genuine order placed by another customer.
If you do require further assistance please register on the TalkTalk Members Forum (http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums) we can assist you in more details.
