Cherry tree in garden

We recently moved to a new house and have discovered that one of the trees in the garden is growing berries which we assume are cherries.
The leaves look a lot like the leaves of this cherry tree but the berries are not yet red like in this link:

We have a 2 year old and are concerned whether these cherries are safe to eat or not.

Does anyone have any idea? Is there any such thing as a poisonous cherry?

Well, my Stella cherry tree has already fruited and we have picked all the (very red) cherries already, so it is a later cherry tree you have. Could be a Morello cherry maybe? In which case the fruits will be sour anyway, so unlikely to tempt any little ones!
