Had offer acceted on house last week so now in process of looking for solicitor/conveyancing place.
Had couple of quotes from local solicitors excluding the disbursements...One has quote £600 another £545 but couple of online ones quoting around £200(inc no sale no fee)this is a big difference so any feed back on the online ones would be appreciated

Just had a sale take about 8 weeks longer than it should have done because the buyer chose a cheap, online solicitor firm.
Couldn't get hold of anybody qualified, kept losing documents. Was a total nightmare.
If you find one with amazing feedback online, then might be worth a go, but I'd always recommend to go with a decent, local independent.I'm an estate agent. :j0 -

I agree with this. For the sake of saving a bit of money you risk the process being a rocky one. We paid £575 for a decent local solicitor. As said above I'm not saying there are no decent on line solicitors, but you need to be able to get hold of them at the drop of a hat and local solicitors tend to fit this bill.0 -
I wouldn't trust the ones saying £200... they can't honestly be expecting to keep in business if they are not padding the disbursements when charging that.
Get an itemised list of the disbursements and check they are ok (there are a few threads on the forum last week about this) and don't include overblown costs for "photocopying" or something!0 -
Check what the cheap one includes/excludes...0

As anything online i'd make sure you know someone whose used it before and as G_M rightly says check what it includes/ excludes0

Used several online companies in the past. In general would recommend, however be aware of the "extras". I
i.e you may get what appears to be a low quote, and then they charge for extra unneeded insurance, finders fee, fee to complete the land return, fee to forward the land return electronically, fee to raise enquiries, etc etc.
If you check for these, and factor them in then you can check how their offer compares.
Personally I would recommend the following website for comparison, as this give a realistic accurate quote.

i recently heard about someone negotiating for a discount on laser eye surgery. can you imagine going cheap on that.
now imagine buying a house for £200k and going cheap, god knows the problems the 'conveyancer' (it won't be a solicitor or probably anyone trained for £200 but hey...you saved some money right) wilol give you as you go along, and it won't be until you sell that you will encounter the !!!!-up they may make.
respect your own purchase and pay a proper price as otherwise you can't expect the £200 bucket shop to.My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -
Many Thanks for all your replies will indeed get a local solicitor0
