Child maintenance

Hi all, long time no speak :)

I have a quick query if you please?

Can anyone tell me if child maintenance is counted as income? After no joy with my exhb with voluntary payments it looks like I will have to go down the CSA route and try to get him to pay that way. Does this count as income when it comes to my IPA?

As far as I am aware it will not count towards an IPA as the money is for your child/children.

I'm rusty with all this-what's the latest on CB/WTC and CTC?

Need to swat up on what's been going on I think-I just try not to think about it too much since I am now discharged-a coping mechanism I think!

Hi Doll. Long time no see, hope your doing well hun :)

I cant answer this, sorry but would be interested in any answers to. Just about to return an I/E form for my hubby and wondered if they take CTC/CB into account when working out an IPA?

All benefits are taken in to account as income, however if they are your sole means of income an IPA cannot be awarded.

True but child maintenance is not a benefit so it doesn't come under the remit of the link :)

Yes I know, I put that link up for the question about benefits from Angie not the CM, sorry for the confusion.

Hi dollparts, if you have any earned income, they will use all of your incomes no matter where they are from to calculate your surplus.

If you dont have any earned income then you wont have an IPA

Thanks DI-how do I go about declaring maintenance if it sporadic? Until such times the CSA are administering the payments I cannot depend on getting it from exhb

Thats a good question, i guess you just have to average it out and make a note on any forms what you have done

    @ Debt

    I'm sure you've answered this before -

    Have I got this right?

You mention all your income and benefits on the SOA.

And the IPA (if there is one) is worked out on your earned income only.

(so any benefits, including Tax Credits, DLA, Child Benefits, Child Maintenance - are effectively excluded from an IPA)
