It's not a direct affect, it's an indirect affect.
Shoudn't that be "effect"?"The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Seems a lot of people missed school that week.
I was only absent for one day in school.
That was when we got to "G" in the alphabet."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

I wondered why you had a problem with Government statistics.
I hope Graham is pleased that his OP has ended up back on affect/effect after his recent visit to this educational experience.

I used affect in the verb to influence as in 'BoE base rates indirectly affects the mortgage rates'
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/affect_1Definition
affect verb ( INFLUENCE )
to have an influence on someone or something, or to cause them to change Both buildings were badly affected by the fire.
The divorce affected every aspect of her life.
It's a disease which affects mainly older people.
I was deeply affected by the film (= It caused strong feelings in me).
Is it time to deflect the issue onto spelling and grammer instead of the topic at hand.
Some people seem not to want to debate the points I think.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

Well seeing as you're quoting the definitions, let's clear it up. It would seem that if you wanted "affect" you were using very poor grammar.
