That's utterly bizarre! Did they give no more explanation that that?"You don't always know where you stand, until you know you won't run away..."0

Nope i was in the branch and called them and they said they put a block on my account untill i can prove where the £50 came from and i was fuming at this point. Just really want to know if i can close my account as i can get an account with barclays?0

Of course you can close your account with them, as long as you don't owe them any money on it.
Just be aware that if posts on MSE are to be believed (do a search), Barclays put blocks on accounts fairly frequently; at Halifax it's a rare occurence.0 -
Im in credit on it but when i rang them they say because its blocked i cant close it thats why im asking on here. I will do a search on barclays.0

You won't be able to do anything with the account until their 'investigation' is complete.
I suspect they think you are upto anything.
If you don't have anything to hide, do as they ask and it will all get sorted.0 -
Ok so i cant close my account untill they finish there Investigation grrr0

Yeah, they suspect fraud or some such rubbish, probably flagged by an automatic system based on the payer details. I'll bet a payment has been made with a stolen card or something.
Don't forget, these systems are also in place to protect you as well as annoy you

Or the £50 has come from another Halifax account which they know has been used to commit fraud.
Or the person who sent the £50 has claimed to their bank that it is a fraudulent transaction and the other bank has contacted the Halifax to inform them of this.
You won't be able to withdraw said £50 until you have proved where it has come from. They will either return it to the sender, or place it into a suspense account and hold it for 6 months.0 -
Oh ok thanks
