I agree that most of the Clinique toners are harsh but they do have an extra mild one which is OK. Its usually behind the counter these days and you have to ask for it because they seem to want to sell you the harsher ones for some reason.
The only skincare I can really recommend from Clinique is the comforting cream cleanser, that is really good and not harsh at all. I tend to use this, I keep saying I will stray from it because of the cost but nothing makes my skin as good as this does so I am going back to it I think. I don't rate the Clinique moisturisers much different from any other and just use a Body Shop one.
I also love their foundation, lippie and eye liner, everything else I get from No7.0 -
You all seem to be describing the exact thing I get whenever I use a facial cream with certain ingredients in. Things like Paraffin oil, petroleum jelly, coco butter (fine for my skin, not for my face!) mineral oil, lanolin....theres quite a few! I found that its because the products just clog my skin and this is the skin reacting and in a very painful way- they are not just white heads, they are angry white heads and combined with paler then pale skin take a few weeks and even months to go!
A few of the brands I have found that do this to me are Cliniques Dramatically Moisturizing lotion/cream (tried both), Boot No.7 (the entire collection of moisturizers), Nivea (again all of them) various BodyShop facial moisturizers, Lush (all except the Vanishing cream)....there is a long list! In contrast, products I seemed fine with were Nuxe, Khiehls(though made my skin tingle), Clarins Beauty flash balm (has some bad stuff in but its in tiny amounts way far down on the ingredients list) and Lush Vanishing Cream. I had spent years of trial and error to find out what works but it wasn't easy! Try seeing if cutting back on some of the ingredients helps- it made a huge difference to my skin anyway.0 -
I found it to be very harsh.Alton_Towers wrote: »I used to use the clarifying toner No 2 and developed an allergy to it - evil stuff, its like paint stripper on your skin. I only found this out after reading up and found other people had also had reactions.
The clarifying toner made my face dry and itchy, it also left a pink stripe on my nose that took weeks to go away. :mad:0 -
I agree I have been getting spots lately and i have (very luckily) always had great clear skin even when i was young

When I used the green one? Which I was told to use by the sales woman person there, come on they're not 'consultants', reacted really badly. Skin went bright red to the point it was peeling!
I took the product back and got a refund for ill advice.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
I'm not keen on Clinique products, except for their anti-blemish gel which is excellent.
I prefer Lush handmade cosmetics, which are natural, and a lot cheaper.
My fave skincare products are: Angels on Bare Skin, Eau-Roma Water, and Paradise Regained Moisturiser.
The Lush moisturiser is a bit pricey for me, so a real favourite has been a recent find I had when stuck with a £5 off Boots voucher Boots Time Delay Wrinkle Reduce Day Cream. I haven't got wrinkles btw, and would never have bought it, without the voucher.
Don't let the title fool you, this has been a brilliant find as it is gentle, and leaves skin radiant, feeling, and looking good, even when you haven't been looking after it.
A must have for me. 0 -
Heard a lot of clinique skincare reaction scare stories from friends/colleagues etc....Everything has quite a chemically smell to it, even the foundations (which are actually quite good). I use simple, the body shop aloe vera range and no 7 mainly...I found a real treat of a scrub (Greatest scrub of all) in the Soap and Glory xmas hatbox...really nice with loads of scrublets that break down into even tinier scrublets and a nice zingy smell to it..lasts ages as well because you only need the smallest amount. Id research what ingredients are in the products and anything that turns up time and time again..avoid at all costs..or stick to natural products like olive oil, yoghurt, sugar scrubs, fresh fruits etc...James Wong and Danielle Ryman both have great books on making natural products and at a much lower prices than Lush! Hope it helps..0

Clinique is a dreadful product, in my opinion as an RGN and beauty therapist. Flippin' heck, the number of clients I've seen who've come to me with troubled skin and they've been using Clinique!
It's way too harsh, which, if you have an oily skin sends a lovely signal to your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. Ergo - even oilier skin!
Be very gentle with oily skin and even consider using oil to cleanse it.0 -

Lush products are not always as "natural" as they like to make out - take a look at the ingredients list and there's quite a lot of unnatural stuff in some (but not necessarily all) of the products.
As an unrelated aside, they also support the Hunt Saboteurs Association - just a head's up, but Hunt Saboteurs (aka "Sabs") are the violent wing of the anti-foxhunting movement. Most "Anti's" (those against foxhunting) will protest, but Sabs are deliberately violent, both towards huntsmen and often animals - they've been known to attack hounds, put tripwires up to trip up horses, etc.
Anyhow, I was wary enough when I found out the products weren't as "natural" as they're portrayed to be (handmade, yes, but not always natural), and then with the support they give to Sabs, I stopped buying from them altogether - they're giving the message that being violent is okay. It's not. It doesn't matter what you're trying to fight against/defend.0 -

There are still a lot of natural ingredients in them, and their products work for me. Thats why I recommended.0
