clinique allergy?

Ive been using Clinique products, cleanser/face wash/toner and moisturisers for about 2 months...my chin and area around base of nose keep erupting into terrible raised spots.
Ive kept going, in case its not products, but no improvement...its like I have teenage acne once again! As this was qute an expensive gift, dont want to give up on it really...
anyone else experienced allergy?

I used one of their moisturisers (the yellow one) once and ended up with spots and *really* oily skin for weeks afterwards...stopped using it immediately, but has taken a while for my skin to get back to normal. I use a lot of different products, and this is the first time I have reacted to something so badly, so it is possible :(.

It is the Green products Im using - I honestly thought Clinique products were supposed to be "gentle" on the skin - think Ill go back to my "Simple" range.

I used to use the clarifying toner No 2 and developed an allergy to it - evil stuff, its like paint stripper on your skin. I only found this out after reading up and found other people had also had reactions.

I bought clinique on the onus that it was gentle on your skin. The sales assistant promised me I wouldn't react to it and if I did I could return the product/s for a refund.

Reacted to the foundation she had applied within minutes, used the cleanser, toner and moisturiser to clean it off. Cue horrendous boil like spots and bright red skin.

Needless to say it went back and i'm still on antibiotics to calm my skin down :(

my skin went horrible after using the 3 step programme.all flaky and tight in places and oily in other places, and spots all over my chin. Will NEVER let that stuff near me again!!

It could be that it's the wrong product line for you, but I'm thinking it's more likely that you're reacting to the HUGE amount of chemicals they use. They have a good reputation because they do a lot of research, not because they use ingredients that are particularly kind to your skin. I've tried so many variations of their 3-step and the only things that have ever worked for me are their moisturisers; their main moisturiser (the yellow one) comes in a cream and a gel formulation and the gel one was pretty good for me, but I've since found better. There are people who do well on the routine, but I've heard about a lot of people who break out and react badly to their products. So I wouldn't say it's an allergy as such (although it could well be!) but more likely just that your skin doesn't agree with the harsh ingredients.

If you want to try something new that gives a similar effect (with regards to the gentle exfoliation that Clinique rave on about) I'd recommend Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. It's much more gentle on the skin (chemical free) and the exfoliation comes from the way you cleanse - polishing off the cleanser - rather than from the high chemical content. Also, you don't really need to use a muslin cloth for the process as I've found a hot flannel does just as well.
Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I think Clinique's toner, in particular, is notoriously harsh. Ever tried to take nail varnish off with it? My skin looks at it's best when I use Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish as recommended above, and it's a bit cheaper then Clinique too!

  • I had exactly the same problem with clinique 3 step stuff, the moisteriser is fine but the using all 3 together made my skin awful :( it took a while to recover
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*
No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!

thanks for your replies...looks like I may give up on Clinique then!
Ill have a look at Liz Earle products...going through airport on saturday, may be better offer:)
  • I gave up using Clinique and switched to Simple a few years ago. I remember using the foaming face wash once and couldn't get if off my skin quick enough as it started to burn!
