Skirting board quote

I have just recieved a quote to fit new skirting boards (including materials) and to replace a couple of joists and floor boards.
The room is roughly 4m x 8m with two chimney breasts that also require skirting. There is also a section of wall left from when it was two rooms to skirt round. In addition, another 8 or 9m of skirting is required in the hall.
The skirting needs to be roughly 180 or 190mm high.
The joists and floor boards are in one corner of the room, at most 2 x 2m lengths of joist and 3 or 4 x 2m lengths of floor board.
The quote I have had is roughly £700.
Please can you tell me if this price sounds about right?

depends where you live. it seems a bit high for round here. the wood material cost is about 100 quid. maybe 150.
(assuming bog standard skirting).
and skirting takes next to no time to fix.
i reckon theres a days work there, at most.Get some gorm.0 -
diy it...can i ask why joists are getting replaced??0

How easy is it to fit skirting boards, I have very little DIY experience and very few tools...
Joists and floorboards need replacing because of some issues with damp (hopefully resolved). Basically there is one area of the room that it is risky to walk on becuase you sink!
The same joiner did similar joist work along with a few other bits around the house for about £200 including materials earlier this year. Was a days work.0 -

Skirting board is easy. Use either a mitre block and saw/jig(10-20 pound ish) or better still a compound mitre saw (60+ pound)
if you can measure and cut a peice of wood you can do it.(job done)
floor boards are just a case of cutting to size and laying.
joists bit more difficult maybe ..lol all depends why they are getting renewed and why there is damp and what you need to do to combat it...Joist will need to be protected from drawing moisture from the walls/floor. (possibly with slate/bituam/membrane or ??)
Are joists being joined to original joist or are they full runs?
If its a join the old rotting parts will need cut out and new ones will need bolted on.(and leveled)0 -
I recently got a quote for my living room 5in skirting (with top groove) 8x6 = £70
although I had ripped out the skirting so that wouldn't be included in quote.0
