After years of using Specsavers, was seduced
by the respectability of D&A this year. Ended up with a prescription that was 3 points too strong on the left eye and 2 points too strong on the right eye.
I had eye strain, double vision, dizziness etc & was unable to drive. When I rang Dolland & Aitchison, they told me it was because I was getting used to the prescription.
I rang Specsavers because I'd left work early 3 times in a week & they told me to come in for an appt the next day. They checked the lenses were the right way out, my sight lines etc & told me to go back to D&A as something was wrong with the prescription and not the glasses.
At D&A the assistant then snottily implied it was because I had my eyes tested at d&A & glasses at Specsavers. Unfortunately they 'couldn't' (or wouldn't)help' until I threw a strop & asked what a too strong prescription had to do with Specsavers and my need for a retest - took another afternoon off work to get the test & discovered there was an incorrect prescription.
I can accept mistakes, but not one apology or even an offer to refund the eyetest, even though I had to take an afternoon off work to get a correct prescription.
Have learned my lesson and in future will opt for cheap reliability over flash advertising.

I was very interested to read your post. I am currently on my third prescription from D & A since February. The first two were way off the mark. Every time they altered the prescription they took the glasses off me while I was waiting for my new ones. All in all I was without 3 pairs of spectacles (which I had paid quite a lot of money for) for almost 12 weeks. They have now agreed to give me a voucher for 25% of my next lot of spectacles but am really not wanting to go back with them.
All in all, pretty shoddy service.0 -
Reoprt to the OCCS and even trading standards! It's the only way I managed to get any response, D&A are awful with handling complaints. They cost me over £500!
