I'm thinking of getting a Slingbox as i travel quite a bit, does anyone have any experience of using them and also what i'm really interested in is what the quality is like (if you are using a decent internet connection of course!).
Thanks
Thanks

Do you travel abroad or is it for use just in the UK ?0

Depends how fast your internet is, I'd imagine. Probably not great considering the upload speeds most of the UK have.
Why not just use iplayer? For a couple of quid a month you could rent a vps/proxy/etc that will allow you to use all the sites as if you were in the UK, assuming you're planning on being abroad. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
I find the quality very good home and abroad0

Thanks for that, reassuring !
I do currently use a VPN and watch iPlayer / 4od but the quality can be a little 'blocky' when my PC's hooked up to a big screen so i was hoping to improve on that. Also alot of the films etc. aren't available so was thinking the new slingbox with built in tuner & dvr might be worth it.0 -
I use it here and in the middle east and find no difference in quality. When using it I can connect my laptop to a 40" tv with no problems.0

I have one that I use regularly, both from Europe and the Far East. It does depend on broadband speeds which you can influence at home, but when away you are often at the mercy of others. Saying that, I watched some world cup footie and some Rugby Union Internationals when I was away last month without any problems.0

Recently used ours abroad using a a mobile dongle and the quality was great.0

A free way is to use Orb http://www.orb.com/ It's completely free, and gives program guides. You of course need a pc with a tv tuner, which needs to be left on. From the Orb login page, you can access your computers tv from anywhere. You can even record programs. When you first set it up, it will search for the channels (freeview), that you can receive in your area.0

I use it when I am in the USA - but something even better is Lamina:

I have got SKY TV as well so can watch films via the SKY player with Lamina or record them on SKY plus and watch via the slingbox.0 -
9 quid a month is mental for a VPN. A third of that for a VPS that'll do the same job, and more. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
