£30 a month actual spend on elec - reasonable?

We have gas central heating, gas cooker - electricity for all other main appliances, 3 bed house with 2 adults, 1 child - and we're spending as much on elec as on gas! Average spend for April, May and June was about £30 per month.
Any ideas, anyone? How can we cut back?

£30 a month sounds very reasonable to me to be honest. Electricity is 3 times more expensive than gas per KW/h. I wouldn't expect you to be able to shave much off that bill assuming you already have low energy light bulbs etc.
  • Well what is £30 in kWh?

The best place to start i find out actually what you are using then see if £30 a months covers this on the tariff

£30 per month is approx £1 per day which is approx 10 kWh per day if the price of your electricity is approx 10p per kWh, so it is not a lot.

Seems reasonable to me, but ours is abnormally low at around 4 kWh/day (actual reading averaged over last few months) - 2 bed back-to-back, dual fuel and our current spend is around £26 for both (obviously in Winter this wall be higher due to more gas used for central heating).

I think you should be celebrating your efficient gas heating/insulation and resulting low gas bill rather than bemoaning the electricity. Of course, you can still investigate further to see who is taking the twenty minute showers or overnight sessions with 3D graphics cards or leaving incandescent bulbs on or plasma television or whatever.
