Costs of trips etc Mexico

Hi Guys,
Hoping for some help and advice about Mexico.
We are looking at staying at and AI hotel before the end of the year near Cancun, so we know where the costs are for our food etc. We would however look at doing a few of the sites/trips and wondered if someone could say how much extra £££ we would need for that? From what I have seen I would like to do the ruins etc, along with probably do a swim with Dolphins.
thanks

Have a look at the trips on https://www.playa.info to give you an idea of the costs. We did some trips with them and we had brilliant days out and they were excellent value for money. Here I go again on my own....0

I would definitely take a day at Chichen Itza. We took a local bus from Cancun & it only cost maybe a fiver each + entrance fee0

we are going in nov, taking couple hundred with us each to do dolphins and any other days0

the trips through the hotels etc can be very expensive - when we went we hired a car for several days and we drove to Coba (which is absolutely amazing as you can climb the pyramid and it's in the jungle), we drove to Chitzen Itza too which is impressive but very busy and we basically went everywhere in the car, the car from what I recall cost us about £200 for 4 or so days, it was safe to drive about and the roads are very simple. We were not up in Cancun but down in Tullum so Coba was closer but it really is a must see site - the other must do is Xel-ha - it is an amazing experience and you can swim with the dolphins there too - it was not far from our hotel and from what I recall, we paid something like $100 for 2 adults and 2 children to get in and that was a fully inclusive price so all food and drinks were included, (dolphins were extra) - if we had done it with the tour ops from the hotel we would have paid about 3 times the amount and it was only up the road
do some research into what you want to do and see, for me, if you only do one thing, go to Xel-ha then if you can only see one site, go to Coba - it is amazing
have a wonderful time and if you do hire a car then make sure you have a map, make sure that when you get petrol and you pay that you very clearly say the amount you are giving them as in some places they will try to rip you off, watch out for 'topes' which as speed bumps from hell and most roads have a sort of hard shoulder that you are expected to move into if someone wants to overtake you
hiring a car will give you loads of freedom and save you loads - have a wonderful time - it is an amazing place0
