toyota problem

In 2006 I bought a Toyota Aygo from a main dealer in herts and soon after noticed that the fuel gauge was giving a false reading the gauge was showing 1/2 a tank but in fact the tank was almost empty. I continued to monitor this and each time the gauge showed twice as much fuel as was the case. I booked the car in to be repaired under warranty but they were unable to solve the problem and contacted Toyota. The car went back in for 10 days and they replaced the sender unit, however the problem remained. Since then the car has been back 6 times to no avail and in 2009 Iwas informed that Toyota were working on a software fix, the car went in for service recently and I asked for the the software update and was told that there was no update and if I wanted the problem fixed it would be over £500, I refused and contacted Toyota who offered me the part free, the dealer refused to fit it free saying the car is now out of warranty and the labour cost would be around £130 I refused stating that the car should still be covered as this has been an ongoing problem since day one. The car has only done 10300 miles and has been serviced by them under a four year service contract, needless to say I will not be buying Toyota or from this dealership again.
