Should I get a different shower?

Hi, I'm having a real problem trying to find someone to fit my new bathroom suite. I've been let down by 2 local plumbers - 1 kept promising to turn up on x date but never did. The second one has to go into hospital soon.

so I've put the job on ratedpeople and then mybuilder. What I have found is that they seem never to have heard of the Mira digital shower? they look at it, scratch their head and one even asked if he could take the instruction book home to study. http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/mira-platinum--biv--ceiling-fed-digital-mixer-shower-high-pressure/

Since my plans have changed since I bought it all I'm wondering whether to go and buy a simpler one instead? If so, which one or which sort? I have a vented system I think it's called with a hot water tank in the airing cupboard and cold water tanks in the loft.

the water pressure in the bathroom is awful so i can't have a simple mixer shower unfortunately.

My situation is that I've decided to sell up and move to the West Country so whilst I want a decent bathroom, I'm not being quite so fussy as I'd originally planned.

The shower you've linked to is designed for high pressure systems such a combi boiler or unvented cylinder - neither which you have. You would need the low pressure pumped version. See http://www.mirashowers.com/onlinecatalog/detail.htm?productNumber=1.1666.201&section=Digital%20showers&resultPageKey=-1128244053-0 . Even the pumped version may not be suitable if the hot water cylinder or cold tank isn't big enough to cope with the extra flow produced by pumping.

If your just doing up to sell on i would get a cheaper thermostatic mixer shower. We went for Grohe Avensys modern which produces fairly decent flow rates for our low pressure vented system.

Personally i wouldn't bother getting a plumber in and would do the job myself . To make it easier measure the distance between the pipe centres of the existing shower supply and get a shower valve with pipe centres to match (most have 150mm pipe centres now though there are exceptions).

    Thanks andrew-b,

this is the shower that was recommended to me by someone. I've got someone coming to look at 5 so will ask him.

As I said, I can't have a simple mixer shower as my water pressure isn't good enough. I'll see what this guy says at 5 o'clock and then pack the Mira away to take to Devon.

I have a complete new bathroom suite awaiting fitting, painting and decorating I can do myself but plumbing in a new bathroom is way out of my league I'm afraid.

Good afternoon: the Platinum is an excellent product....the OH fits these as well as the Aqualisa Quartz Digital. You would need this version. Unfortunately, many folks who call themselves plumbers aren't plumbers and don't/can't avail themselves of the professional development opportunities presented by manufacturers or trade organisations such as the CIPHE. Hopefully the next one up to bat will have a clue.;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have a vented system like you with rubbish pressure. My bathroom was re done in march and I went for an Aqualisa Axis shower. Head comes out of the ceiling. It's pumped so no worries that your pressure is rubbish.

I picked it up for £400 at a local bathroom company.

hi, yes this is the one I bought. the 5pm plumber didn't turn up, didn't phone to say he wouldn't and didn't answer my call when i rang - quel suprise!

However, a bit of good news, the guy who fitted my coving last week popped by with my key. He does plumbing and said I might be better off with something like the Mira vigour as we have lousy water pressure here. I've found one for £131. so at least I could have a decent enough shower for however long I'm here before the move.

second bit of good news. a neighbour gave me the name of someone he used to fit his. He's just been round and said he'd happily fit the Mira Platinum but thought it too good a shower if I'm selling up,

he's gone home to see if he can move some of his other work to fit me in at the end of this week. fingers crossed. he's also given me a couple of other ideas on how to finish the bathroom and save money :money: just waiting for his call back now.

Good morning: the Mira Vigour is an electric shower. Do you currently have the same...if not, you are looking at additional fitting costs by a 'competent person'.

If you have good cold mains, you might have a look at the Trevi Boost shower

Hi, what the chap advised me to get was a power thermostatic shower rather than an electric shower that heats water as you go.

He said it is easier to fit than the Platinum and I can take the 'fancy' shower with me to the new house.

I could sell the house without a shower I guess, but I like to have a shower in the mornings.
