Growing Aubergines
Has anyone tried growing Aubergines. I have three large plants that I have grown from seeds but so far there are no flowers. I am growing them in pots. It does recommend growing in a greenhouse but I don't have one. I am wondering if I can expect any fruits.
We only started growing our own produce 2 years ago. At first we made the mistake of growing things that are cheap to buy and due to the lack of space we didn't get much (carrotts radishes etc) apart from the tomatoes I mentioned in my other thread. So, I thought about aubergines as these are expensive to buy and we really like them but I thought we would have seen something by now.

I have some in a plastic greenhouse 1 has got an open flower on it and many buds the other has lots of buds and the other 2 have no buds at all from what i have reserched they like hot humid conditions much hotter than tomatoes so not sure if mine will do much I would keep them inside in a warm sunny room and mist with water every so often
Good luck

I have an upright plastic greenhouse with an aubergine growing in it. It has flowers but as yet, no fruit. The door on the greenhouse is open most the time so they probably aren;t in the ideal conditions if they like it hot and humid as janibrown learned from her research :-)Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

It sounds like we are all going to have to pool our aubergines together and maybe get a small starter between us.0

ok, we just dont have the right conditions in this county to grow aubergines
you need high, prolonged heat, and humidity late in the day
you might be lucky and get the odd flower and fruit, but dont expect them to grow any bigger than a a cherry tomato, unless you have access to glass, and heating
£ for lb you get better results in Aldi

I've got two plants which I grew from seed which don't have any flowers or buds on yet (they are still quite small though so they need to grow a bit more first).
I also have a plant that I bought from Wilko's. This one seems to have quite a few buds on it - one flowered ages ago and the aubergine has started to grow, and I have two other flowers at the moment. I'm growing mine outdoors as I don't have a glasshouse, and I ran out of room for my plastic one a while back so it had to get put away....
I know that I won't get as good a crop as if I had them in a greenhouse, but so far I'm pleased with progress as I wasn't sure anything would come at all! My seed packet says they are ready from Aug-Oct, so plenty of growing time left yet!0 -
According to this you are all right if you are are in central London -ok, we just dont have the right conditions in this county to grow aubergines
you need high, prolonged heat, and humidity late in the day

I grow my aubergines in a greenhouse and last year I got enough fruit. Too many aphids this year for me to see if it will be a success or not.
But from 12 plants last year I got 3-4 fruits of each plant.0 -
