Garden gate galvanising and coating

Got some quotes in for a new gate and one has come back with an additional cost of £60 for galvanising and £70 for powder coating.
The others have been included in the price with oxide primer.
The gate will either be black or white when in situ, but is it worth the extra costs for either or any of these?

They only do a painted finish for £20 extra.
This is the first quote that has given me an option of galvanising it and powder coating it.
What i mean is does anybody think that any of these options are a worthwhile extra for the cost?0 -
galvanising pretty much guarantees no rust ever, powder coating on bare steel is a baked on layer that is tough but not indestructible and if it is damaged then rust happens as normal.
As long as they send enough to avoid the minimum charge galvanising is surprisingly cheap and well worth the cost.0 -

They had quoted to do both, galvanise then powder coat.
I know it will stop it rusting, but do you think its worth the extra cost or i could prime it myself in oxide?0 -
No reason you can't paint it yourself. You could always give it a coat of primer then a couple of coats of Hammerite - depends on the finish you prefer. Whilst Hammerite is not the cheapest of paints, it is pretty good at what it does. You also have the advantage that if / when it gets chipped you can easily touch it up yourself - as long as the paint is kept in good condition it should never rust.
As I said, you may not like the look of paint as much as galvanised, but it's down to personal preference and it's another option to consider.0 -

I would recommend galvanising the fence as a minimum. You will thank all of us for doing this. Some neighbours have done the skin flint thing and did not galvanise the fence. This rusts in less than a year.
I would get them to paint it. Pain in the backside if you don't, unless you are one of the people who have so much time on their hands.
Anyway, no point of powder coating.
Enjoy and wonder why you paid so much money for a fence, when you could get a new 3D tv with it. I do!Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!
Also, thank you to people who help me out.0 -
Probably go for the galvanising, not the powder coating as not sure what colour i want the gate. May even stick with metal look for a while.
Thanks for all the help.0
